Soft paint?
Hi chaps,
Noticed 2 very fine scratches on the clearcoat/lacquer of my drivers door last weekend and found a small piece of mortar sat between front bumper and bonnet.
Looked closer today and there are a few fine swirls that look very slightly grey in the light. Noticed one on the other side too :-(
They are very slight but gutted. Car is filthy (live on a developing new housing estate and not had great weather) and got a load of greasy bird poop on it yesterday. That eaily washed off with warm water and Gard X bird lime remover but still remnants of it left on the plastic roof.
This should wash/wear off but will the marks/scratches buff out with someone who knows what they are doing? Also is Autoglym bumper care ok to treat the roof?
May give it a quick foam wash tomorrow until the weather is better....then guess will have to pluck up the courage to put it in the garage!

Re: Soft paint?
If you are really that worried about paintwork, there are three main things to watch out for.
1.... Clean bird plops off ASAP, as they have acid content.
2... Never drive up close to the car in front, keep well back, or you can kiss your nice clean bonnet goodby, as it gets pockmarked with stone chips.
3..Watch where you park in Supermarket carparks, ie, say as far away from the store entrance as possible, because thats the busy area.
And what goes without saying, hand wash the car occasionally

Re: Soft paint?
Hi,
Been driving that before I had the smart.
Will see how I get on.
May enquire with the detailer I use about getting the marks off.

Re: Soft paint?
I thought the paint took some months to harden up.
Still, I have been giving it plenty of coats of some SupaGuard (?) or similar wax treatment that came with our Scratch Black smart (one before the Roadster) and it has not only put a great shine on the car but has seemed to reduce the number of fine marks that would appear.
I think some of the marks were caused simply by people walking past the car and allowing parts of their coats, handbags, carrier bags etc. to simply brush the paintwork. Not maliciously, but it seemed when I first had the car that was all that was needed to scratch it.
One thing that does cause scratches is the hose from the 'JetWash', whether it is the grit that they pick up from the floor, I don't know, but letting the hose touch the paint is a quick way to get a decent scratch. Since realising this we've avoided using them, only as a last resort do we use one, and then very carefully.
