No future for the Wind
No future for the Wind, and no restayling in program, due to bad succesful of the car (only 6900 cars sold instead the prevision of 75000).
That's the Renault's decision.
Re: No future for the Wind
Are you are saying that not only is Renault finishing production of UK Right Hand Drive Winds, but also of all European Left Hand Drive Winds as well ?
So when does it stop production in Mainland Europe, is it also at end of Febuary 2012 ?
Note: When production of a model stops, spares for the car must be made available by the manufacturer for ten years.

I don't know the date, but Renault as no intentions to do, in the future, a new model of the renault wind, or a restyling...

Re: No future for the Wind
Well having owned cars like the Honda CRX Delsol and Smart Roadster, it was a normal progression to get a similar looking two seater convertable for me, because I really liked the look of it
The one thing that held me back for a year was the high price of the Wind, and that it seems was the major reason it did not sell in a recession. Although lack of advertising as mentioned before, did not help the situation of poor sales.
Now they are giving a decent discount to get the last remaining Winds off the dealer forecourt, and they will sell them off pretty quick, as the cars are now priced right.
Not so good, for the ones who paid full price for them at launch, but thats the car game

Yep. What he said. Got my 61 plate 1.6 GT Line for £11k.
Shame they didn't price them lower from mew as I thought the smart Roadster Coupe was overpriced too...but got £1500 off that as well :-)

I agree it hasn't sold well, but I think that the 75000 number was the total european market prediction for small 2 seater convertibles and not predicted Wind sales, so would have included MX-5's, 206cc, mini, fiat 500 etc. I'm not sure what % market share Renault were hoping for, but less than 7000 cars in 2 years is obviously far less than they wanted!
The car itself received generally favourable reviews in the UK, with some reservations about the styling and the name. The Renault 'brand' also is not considered 'prestige' by a very 'snobbish' UK car buying market that is obsessed with German brands (very odd when you consider general UK attitudes towards the Germans!), these three factors consigned it to failure before it had a chance to succeed.
However, with the exception of Mazda's MX5 which is more expensive anyway, the Renault had few direct competitors. The reason being that for a long time, 2 seater cars have not sold well - the short lived Vauxhall Tigra convertible, Ford Streetka, and Smart Roadster are all rare. Perhaps if the Wind had been promoted and marketed more aggresively, and using a different name highlighting the Renaultsport brand and F1 connections, it may have sold a little better, but the European market is in recession and for many a 2 seater is a luxury toy at any price.
We should all be happy to have something just a little different, that will always be unusual.

Found this on a French news website which seems to suggest that the Wind will continue to be sold in Europe for the forseeable, but there will be no development or future replacement. Total european sales are quoted at around 11,000 cars...

I read in last weeks Autocar road-test of the new Hyundai Veloster, that Hyundai are aiming for 5000 UK sales (total or annual is unclear), but given that this is a more practical type of car, but a niche one nevertheless, it puts UK Wind sales into perspective, were Renault really aiming for many more than this?
