Car Related Christmas Gifts

Post by UnluckyXIII on Mon Dec 26, 2011 3:08 am

Well now that Christmas is over I guess it's time to ask what car related gifts everyone got?

I got a nice private number plate from Mrs XIII to go on my new Wind so I couldn't be happier.

So how did everyone else do?

Is there much work involved in changing the lights over becuase this is something that I would be interested in doing to my Wind once I get it??

You do have ballast units to instal and fix, thats why I assume the headlight units were removed to gain access.

An easier and cheaper method is by direct bulb replacement, though not as powerfull as Xenon, but gives you 50% more light and throws the beam out a further 10 metres, is by using H4 Philips Visionplus lamps, cost around £20 for the set from Halfords or most car part internet websites.

There are other manufactures that make similar 'more light for your wattage' bulbs, not just Philips.

I fitted H4 60/55W Philips Visionplus lamps as a direct replacement on my five seater car that had pathetic lights of the same wattage, and they made a big difference for driving on rainly nights.

I am still thinking whether or not to fit these on my 'Wind', as I have not done much night driving in the rain yet, to know if they are needed or not. But they did make a vast improvment to my other car.

It's a huuuuge difference.

When driving at night on the highway with the previous bulbs it was sometimes like my lights weren't on at all and looks poor when driving next to other cars.

Now it's a whole different story. I don't think I'll want to go back to regular bulbs.

Installing them the way they are on my car isn't completely necessary but easier. Those that have replaced the lights already know how you have to squeeze your hand through the back of the headlights. Especially the side where the battery is, is a cramped up space.
Done like this also makes it more difficult to see they're aftermarket, as the wires are taped up and tucked away and the ballasts were placed underneath the headlights.

They cost me 99€, cheaper than I thought!

That sounds like a better option to me, I guess a trip to halfords on my way back from the dealers is on the cards then.
