This car deserves a personal plate ?

Post by colsmart on Thu Dec 01, 2011 4:19 am

I always buy nice looking convertables, and I always transfer my personal number plate I have had for twenty years, to each one in turn. So now my Wind has my plate.

I have a three letter and three number plate, cost me £200 twenty years ago, now worth around between £800 and £1200, (price varies up and down over the years, depending on market) but I have transfered it at £80 a time for at least 8 times over 20 years, this has cost me another £640. Once I even had to put it in retention for a year, as I had no car to put it on and that was £110 at the time.

Anyway, I feel a fancy looking car always looks better not knowing the year of the car, so a personal plate is the answer Very Happy

Do you agree, and do you have one ? and why ?

You can have one of those really expensive few digit ones at thousands of pounds, or one of those plates that spells out something or your name, or a pre fix age plate like H3 XXX at around £200 to £500, or one like mine with three letters and three numbers, or three numbers and three letters.

(IMPORTANT WARNING.....By the way, I want to remind people not to say or show their actual plate number, due to the danger of cloning by criminals who look at the internet car sites for such information).

Not a good number. On anything, never mind a car.

I seem to recall a programme with 'Father Lionel Fanthorpe' which featured a car with such an unlucky number that kept catching fire...

QI programme says that 666 isn't unlucky at all and that actually it's a mis-translation from the Old Testament. Unfortunately I can't remember what the actual number is...!

Found the article:

located at: Ghost car

Ghost car needs the exhaustist..

A MOTORIST who bought a car with the number plate ARK 666Y called in an exorcist to banish the evil spirit which he claims has caused a catalogue of disasters.

Terrified businessman Keith Tagliaferro asked the Anglican priest to bless the 16-year-old Ford Capri yesterday.

He said the coupe had brought him nothing but bad luck since he bought it 18 months ago.

He added: "I've been told the number plate is causing conflict between good and evil. The letters ARK battle with 666 - the number of the Beast."

Friends won't travel in the car because of images of a woman with burning eyes staring from the rear-view mirror.

And Fergie, his pet goldfish, died suddenly after pictures of the Capri were left by his bowl overnight.

The final straw came on Monday as he discussed selling the purple devil- car with his girlfriend - and was struck by lightning.

Keith, of Eastbourne, Sussex, said: "That freaked me out so I sent for exorcist Father Lionel Fanthorpe." Since buying the car for just pounds 150 from a man desperate to sell it, Keith has had the worst year of his life.

He'd had the rogue Capri less than 24 hours when:

IT failed its MOT three times after rust spots mysteriously appeared.

A MECHANIC fled after it started to rock and he heard a woman's voice and began to switch itself on.

A SHED yards from where it was parked burst into flames - but the car was untouched

Keith said: "But Monday night's storm did it for me.

"I was talking about getting rid of it to my girlfriend Michelle when the house was hit by lightning.

"I was flung nine inches in the air. I swear I saw sparks coming out of my toes."

Father Fanthorpe, 63, presenter of C4's Fortean TV, which reports spooky stories, said: "I prayed for assistance if it was a lost soul and told it to begone if it was evil.

"Keith and I both felt a sense of peace afterwards."

I did like Father Lionel Fanthorpe and Fortean TV. He never seemed to take it too seriously!

Thats one creepy story !

Superstition would prevent me from dealing with 666 at all.

I even pat the front of my car occasionally after a run, and say 'good car', hoping it will keep me safe.

Yes, deep down we still are superstitious people.

I don't pat the car. But I do say thank you!
As you say, I hope it will keep me safe, and it can't do any harm can it now?

My neighbours had a 666 plate on a old cavalier, As far as I know there have been no visitations or anything remotely supernatural ., the only thing that happened was they once poured anti freeze into the oil instead of the Rad but this was noticed by another of my neighbours who save the day by quickly draining the oil before they started the car

I believe they retained the plate after the car expired and still have it.

I've had a personal plate since mid-1990's, this is the fourth change, I was going to give it up but my sister convinced me the car deserved it. It was first on a Black Landrover 90.
- incidentally - as is the norm with motorbikers, virtually all landie drivers wave at each other on the road (don't think this applies to range rover drivers). I was a bit confused at first wondering why people I had never met were waving at me - until the penny dropped - it was quite nice, feeling you were in a private club - hope I see one of you on the road, remember to wave back. cheers

There's quite a story behind my personal plate.

My love of all things car comes from my Dad, who was also a petrol head. Growing up we had 2 MG Metros, 2 XR3i's (Mk3 and Mk4) and 2 MR2's (Mk1 and Mk2). He got a plate when he got the Mk2 MR2 back in 1993.

Unfortunately, after a very long and hard battle with a serious illness. He passed away last year. And the plate passed to me. I initially didn't want to keep it and tried to sell it. But after several months we'd had no real interest in it.

Then about 3 months ago I had to get my logbook our for the Wind, and it was then that I realised that the Date of Registration on the car was on my Dad's Birthday. I'd not realised because it was a pre-registered car. So that was that. The plate is now on the Wind.

You must have the oldest Wind on here then. Twisted Evil

Joking aside, I agree that it's very apt for it to be on your Wind now. Cool
